11 Healthy and Delicious Summer Appetizers

To me, summer is all about relaxing and enjoying the weather with family and friends. This can also mean that food will be a part of the festivities. That’s not a bad thing as long as we enjoy the many healthy alternatives out there that come without all the calories and guilt.

Hold the Calories, Please

Summertime heat can sometimes make people not want to eat too much. Try these light and yummy appetizers that can be served as main dishes and won’t make you feel too full:

  1. Spinach Dip
  2. Artichoke Dip
  3. Homemade Tortilla Chips
  4. Jalapeno Poppers
  5. Deviled Eggs
  6. Tomato-Basil Skewers
  7. Tuna-Stuffed Peppers
  8. Tomato, Melon and Cucumber Salad
  9. Oven-Fried Zucchini Sticks
  10. Oven Sweet Potato Fries
  11. Mexican Grilled Corn on the Cob

It has been a long time since my husband and I made homemade salsa, which is silly because we both enjoy it so much. Here are some great salsa recipes. I think we may head to the farmers market this week and make some of our favorite salsa and homemade tortilla chips. I challenge you to make a healthy alternative to one of your favorite appetizers this week as well.

Don’t forget about fruits and veggies. These are always great appetizers to set out and munch on. Be careful of the dips as they can add some unwanted calories. I like to use fat-free sour cream with a Ranch packet mixed in for a veggie dip. I also use low-fat strawberry or vanilla yogurt for a fruit dip.

For some, drinks are as important to a meal as the food itself. Here are some beverages to enjoy this summer: low-calorie adult beverages. For some alcohol free alternatives, try these low-calorie beverages.

And, try one of these no cook summer soups, salads and/or sandwiches. End your delicious meal with some quick and healthy desserts or enjoyable frozen, low-calorie treats.
