Asian Bento Box Pizza

Coming up with new ideas to put in your child’s lunch box can be hard. Good news is bento boxes allow your child to never have a boring lunch again.

Bento is a single-portion take-out or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine. A traditional bento holds veggies, fruits, fish or meats, usually in a box-shaped container. Packing lunches in a bento box adds variety to a child’s lunchbox and are perfect for creative parents who are on-the-go.

This recipe takes a clever spin on a bento box and allows a child put their own spin to their lunch once they unpack all the contents of their lunch box. Not only will kids love that they get to eat a healthier take on pizza for lunch, they will also get to play with their food during lunchtime.

Teriyaki Sauce:
1. Combine the 1 cup water, brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, garlic and ginger in a medium saucepan and set over medium heat.
2. In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch with the ¼ cup water and whisk until dissolved. Add the cornstarch mixture to the saucepan.
3. Heat the sauce until it thickens to your desired thickness. If the sauce becomes too thick, add more water to thin it out.

Asian Pizza:
1. Pack all ingredients in separate compartments in a container for lunch. Kids can then make an Asian pizza for lunch.
2. Place desired ingredients on top of naan bread, then drizzle with teriyaki sauce.
