Cooking pasta in an instant cooker is easy, quick and convenient. You can cook any type of pasta in an Instant Pot, including spaghetti, fusilli, penne and macaroni. Cooking times will vary depending on the type and thickness of the pasta.

How to Cook Pasta in an Instant Cooker

Total Time:

5 to 8 minutes, depending on type of pasta

Prep Time:

5 minutes

Cooking Difficulty:

Easy

Serving Amount
Ingredients
  • 2 cups dried pasta

  • 4 cups water

  • salt, if desired

Instructions
  • Step 1

Use a 1:2 ratio of cups of pasta to cups of water when cooking pasta in the instant cooker. Salt the water according to personal preference and health needs. Stir to combine until all the pasta is wet.

  • Step 2

    Seal and lock the pot.

  • Step 3

As a general guideline, set the instant cooker to cook at high pressure for half of the recommended stovetop cooking time. For example, if the box suggests cooking the pasta for 8 minutes on the stovetop, cook it for 4 minutes in the instant cooker.

  • Step 4

Carefully turn the pressure release valve from the sealing to the venting position to allow the steam to escape. Use caution when handling the pot to avoid any steam burns. The water should be fully absorbed by the time the pasta is done. If not, test the noodles for doneness and strain the water if needed.

How to Store Cooked Pasta

Cooked pasta should not sit out for longer than two hours. Once pasta is cooled, store in a container with a tight-fitting lid and a little bit of oil or butter.
Toss well to make sure the pasta is not sticking together and is lightly coated. Cooked pasta should last three to five days and stored in the refrigerator. Frozen pasta can last up to two to three months. Pasta has a high-water content, which is why it is best to thaw the pasta in the refrigerator for a few hours before using it again.
