Don’t Judge a Food by Its Cover

When I see foods that look strange or unappealing, I always make sure not to purchase them. It’s hard for me to get excited about buying foods that look like they wouldn’t sit well in my stomach – they just don’t seem appetizing. Contrary to popular belief, though, ugly foods can sometimes be quite tasty and healthy, too.
Here are a few foods that don’t look very yummy but are actually great choices, according to
  • Brussels Sprouts: These little green foodstuffs promote healthy cell growth and hormonal balances in both men and women.
  • Octopus: This protein-rich organism is great for cardiovascular health and contains many vitamins and minerals.
  • Prunes: These wrinkled fruits are high in antioxidants and are beneficial to digestive health.
  • Oysters: In addition to containing few calories and large amounts of protein, oysters are a wonderful source of zinc.
  • Seaweed: Rich in amino acids, vitamins and minerals, seaweed is a very healthy alternative to a less nutritious meal or snack. It also improves water metabolism.
“Don’t judge a book by its cover” – I think this is a phrase with which all of us are familiar. While we usually apply this saying to our inherent tendency to judge others based on what they look like, we can actually apply it to our encounters with food as well. Next time, instead of going with the good-looking food that isn’t very high in nutritional value, consider trying something that looks a little ugly but, in reality, is much better for you – and tastes good, too.
