Creating a vision board helps you see the future of your dreams.
A dream or vision board is made by cutting images and motivational phrases out of magazines and gluing them to a poster board. You can also go digital by pinning to a virtual board on Pinterest.
The idea behind both is that surrounding yourself with images that more closely align to an ideal version of your life can help you make that life a reality.
While there’s no hard and fast scientific evidence proving vision boards work, they can be a powerful tool to help you start thinking about what you want out of life. If you’re feeling stuck, grab a stack of magazines, some scissors, glue and poster board and read on for our top vision board tips.
Reflect Before You Start: Take a minute to think about what it is in your life you’d like to see change. Would you like a different job? Do you have goals to lose weight or eat better? Are six-pack abs in your future? Do you want to reconnect with your kids or your spouse? Whatever your life dreams are, taking just a little time to reflect on them will help you with the actual creation of your vision board.
Cut Like Crazy: Don’t over-think it. If an image or phrase speaks to you, cut it out. Create a big pile to work with, but don’t glue anything down yet.
Lay It All Out: Start to put your favorite clippings on your board. You can group similar goals together on different sections of the board. Maybe your board will have sections for family, money, and health, for example. Or not. Everyone’s vision is different, which is part of the beauty of the exercise.
Lock It In: Glue everything down in place. Embellish your board with paint or markers, and add any specific phrases you want to see every day. You can even place a picture of yourself in the center of the board if you desire.
See It, Do It: Put your vision board in a place where you can be inspired by it every day. Use it to fuel action against your dreams. You could also start keeping a vision journal as a portable reminder to keep your goals front and center. This is a good place to write down the goals you have and the steps you need to take to make them happen.
