MIKidsCanDance
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Detroit Pistons are asking Michigan youth dance teams to showcase their best moves in an effort to promote an active lifestyle through dancing and the health benefits children enjoy from it.
Dancing has many health benefits including improving cardiovascular health, boosting mood and increasing flexibility. The #MIKidsCanDance contest is an extension of BCBSM’s ongoing efforts to help Michigan families make good choices leading to healthier lives. With a focus on improving children’s health, over the last 10 years, BCBSM has given more than $6 million in support of kids’ health and wellness initiatives across the state, reaching more than 100,000 children.
Youth teams with dancers ages seven to 15 are invited to enter the #MIKidsCanDance contest by creating an original 15-second dance video and uploading it to Instagram.
Submissions will be accepted Jan. 26 through Feb. 13 and will be featured on AHealthierMichigan.org/MIKidsCan.
The grand prize of the #MIKidsCanDance Instagram contest includes:
  • Team performance (up to 15 dancers) with the Mob Squad presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan during the March 24, 2015 Detroit Pistons basketball pre-game show
  • First-place trophy
  • Video of the dance routine performed at the March 24, 2015 Detroit Pistons game
  • One ticket for each dancer plus four additional tickets to the March 24 Detroit Pistons basketball game
  • Participation in “The Drop,” a one day event offering Master Classes instructed by a carefully selected group of top Choreographers in the dance industry
A two-week public voting period will take place from Feb. 16 to Feb. 27 to determine five semifinalists. BCBSM and the Mob Squad will select the grand prize winner from the semifinalists based on creativity, energy and technical skill. The winner will be announced March 4.
One first runner-up team will receive the opportunity to participate in “The Drop,” as well as one ticket for each dancer plus four additional tickets to the March 24, 2015 Detroit Pistons basketball game. One second runner-up team will receive one ticket for each dancer plus four additional tickets to the March 24, 2015 Detroit Pistons basketball game.
