Sit n’ Soak: DIY Salt Baths

Doesn’t a nice, long, bubble bath sound amazing right now? Learn how you can spice up your baths and improve your health all at once!

Whether you’re in need of some serious relaxing time or a good cleansing, bath salts may be the answer you’ve been searching for.

Why It’s Worth It

Blogger Laura R. shares that there are SO many health benefits that these salt recipes add to your bath. For example:

  • They help you fall asleep. The salts work to relax you physically and mentally, giving you a sense of peace of mind. Tip: a good ingredient to add to your bath salt recipe if you’re looking for a good night’s rest is lavender.
  • They help to reduce blood pressure and improve blood circulation. The mixture of warm water and salts increases the capacity of your heart, making it work faster and stronger.
  • They help you lose weight. I know, WHAT? Baths actually reduce sugar and glucose levels in the blood (very beneficial for those with diabetes).
  • They help with cough and flu symptoms. The steam from the bath can dry out mucous in your throat and nose.

I know what you’re thinking, why didn’t I know all of this before? It’s okay, that’s what I’m here for.

How To Make Them

Here are two of my favorite homemade bath salt recipes. For mixing, I recommend using a small bowl for one-time use, and a glass jar if you plan to store your mixture for another time. If you’re looking to make more mix for a later use, feel free to double or triple ingredients as you go.

 Salt Detox Bath

This helps to flush out all toxins in the body, improving your immune system. Not to mention it leaves your skin extremely moisturized.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1/4 cup Sea Salt or Himalayan Salt
  • 1/4 cup Baking Soda
  • 1/3 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Favorite Essential Oil (I used lavender)

In a pot or small mixing bowl dissolve the salt and baking soda in boiling water and set aside. While filling the tub with warm or hot water, add the apple cider vinegar. Then add the salt mixture and the essential oil to top it off. Enjoy!

Honey Almond Oil Bath Salt

This smells amazing! It leaves your skin feeling SUPER soft and helps to soothe aching muscles.

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups of Sea Salt
  • 1 cup of Baking Soda
  • A soap fragrance oil (I used Honey Almond flavored)
  • Soap Coloring (optional)

Pour Sea Salt in a bowl, while gradually adding drops of your fragrance oil. Stop adding the oil when you’ve reached your desired scent. If you choose to use soap coloring, add drops as you mix, making sure to break up the color after each drop. Keep adding drops until it reaches your desired color (make sure the dye is soap-making dye for skin safety). Then add the baking soda.

Stir all of the ingredients together and add a few spoonful’s to your bath while running water.
