With up to 60,000 new cases of Parkinson’s disease diagnosed every year, The Michigan Parkinson Foundation, or MPF as it is sometimes known, is as valuable a resource as ever. Since the early 1980s, the organization’s primary focus has been supporting individuals suffering from Parkinson’s disease as well as their families and health professionals.
The group’s most prominent fundraising efforts as of late include annual “I gave my sole for Parkinson’s” walk-a-thons and 5k fun runs. This year alone the organization has arranged five of their annual runs around the state in Lansing, Alpena, Kalamazoo, Northville and St. Clair Shores.
2014 will mark MPF’s first event in Kalamazoo, while runs in St. Clair Shores and Northville will be celebrating 12 year anniversaries. In the past, MPF has hosted over 500 participants at each event and raised more than $100,000 to help support programs and services for those affected by Parkinson’s disease and their families living in the state of Michigan.
So whether you’re a walker, runner or general supporter of finding a cure, the Michigan Parkinson Foundation offers many opportunities to help assist in beating the disease.
MPF’s next event is their east side “I gave my sole for Parkinson’s” walk-a-thon and 5k fun run on Saturday, June 7. Visit the Michigan Parkinson Foundation’s website for more details about the organization and other upcoming activities.
