Green isn’t festive on your gums & teeth during your St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is the one day of the year it’s acceptable to cook green eggs and ham for breakfast, eat green cakes and cupcakes for desert and sip on green beer throughout the night. But what do all of these things have in common? Food coloring! In small amounts this can be fun and harmless, but when consumed in excess your teeth will be left looking green longer than you’d like. Try these tips to ensure a white smile post-St. Patrick’s Day:
Be cautious of green drinks
It’s common for servers to unknowingly over-color when using food dyes so air on the side of caution if your green drink was created at the establishment serving you. Stick to themed drinks that are professionally mixed to ensure you don’t become another victim of over-coloring.
Brush immediately
The best way to avoid staining is to brush your teeth immediately after consuming any food coloring. Even if you can’t get to a toothbrush right away try to rinse your mouth out with water to wash off these green stains while they are still fresh.
