Get festive in Michigan
It may not be the snowiest December here in Michigan, but there are still several ways to get into the holiday spirit. With the time remaining in the month, take advantage of all the festive activities and attractions sprinkled around the state!
  • Wayne County Lightfest in Westland: One of the Midwest’s largest light shows, Lightfest features more than 47 giant animated displays made up of more than one million lights. The complete route runs more than four miles through Hines Drive. Check it out every night except for Christmas through the end of the month. The entrance fee is $5 per car.
  • Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak: The zoo gets a holiday makeover thanks to five million lights covering trees and buildings and creating animal sculptures. There is also live entertainment, crafts, ice carving and a holiday train display. It’s open every night except for Christmas Eve and Christmas. Tickets cost $9 in advance or $11 at the gate.
  • Meadow Brook Holiday Walk in Rochester: Visit this amazing historic mansion all decked out for the holidays. It’s open until December 23 and costs $20 per adult ($5 per kid). If you’re not from the area, make a day out of it and stroll through downtown Rochester to see the entire city lit!
  • Bronner’s in Frankenmuth: This town was named one of the most Christmassy towns in America by Time magazine and it’s easy to see why. Visit Bronner’s, a Christmas store you have to see to believe, see the Silent Night Memorial Chapel and check out the Old Christmas Station restaurant.
This list is far from complete. Let us know your favorite holiday events that go on around Michigan and check out these other blogs for more ideas:
