Veterans Day is an official holiday observed annually on November 11 to honor military veterans.
The holiday coincides with other observances, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries to mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. The major hostilities of the war formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect.
Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service.
Did you know:
  • Less than one percent of the country has served in the military.
  • There are over 600,000 veterans in Michigan.
  • While there are no active duty bases remaining in the state, Michigan still has the 11th-largest veteran population in the nation.
Happy Veterans Day to everyone who has served in the military or is currently serving in the National Guard or Reserves. Your sacrifices have not gone unnoticed and we want to be sure to offer a sincere thank you for your service to our country on this special day.
Please take a moment to thank a veteran today or to reflect on what they’ve given and done for our country.
