Mother’s Day 2023: Michigan Events to Celebrate with Mom This Year

Are you looking to get out of the house this Mother’s Day or maybe give the gift of time and an experience?
From indoor to outdoor and paid to free, there is a wide variety of fun Mother’s Day events planned in Michigan this year.
Mother’s Day weekend falls on May 13-14 in 2023.

Markets and Shopping

Mother’s Day Pop Up in Kalamazoo
When: Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Where: The Birches at 3082 S. 9th St. in Kalamazoo.
Details: The first 50 shoppers at this Mother’s Day Pop Up that bring a friend or family member will receive a free gift!
Beyond that neat little nugget, enjoy the 50+ vendors selling handmade items, baked goods, bath and body products, jewelry and so much more. There will also be giveaways and goodie bags. Check out the Facebook event page for more information and a full list of vendors.
2023 Tulip Time Festival Artisan Market
When: Saturday and Sunday, May 6-7, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days.
Where: The Ottawa County Fairgrounds at 1286 Ottawa Beach Road in Holland.
Details: Historically, the Tulip Time Artisan Market is host to 200 vendors and thousands of visitors. As is tradition, the Artisan Market will be a juried show, mandating all artists to display only handmade and original work.
By spreading out the Tulip Time activities the hosts hope to attract more people, including our locals who normally avoid downtown during this time. They will also have food trucks on location for vendors and shoppers to enjoy. Popup Dutch dance performances, too! Who doesn’t love those?
Michigan Makers Mother’s Day Craft Show
When: Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Where: 7878 Brighton Road in Brighton.
Details: Brighton High School is the place to be on Mother’s Day Eve, where 60 local crafters and vendors will be present.
Parking and admission is free for this event, which is hosted by the Michigan Makers LLC. This flyer shows the complete list of vendors.
Mother’s Day Market at Mall of Monroe
When: Saturday, May 13, from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Where: 2121 N Monroe St. in Monroe.
Details: Presented by the Monroe County Flea Market, this shopping-centric event will feature an assortment of vendors at the Mall of Monroe.
Mother’s Day at Baycreek
When: Thursday, May 4 through Sunday, May 7
Where: Baycreek & CO: 9770 S Dixie Highway in Erie., and, Baycreek Design House: 2147 Manhattan St. in Erie.
Details: Both shops are open and are ready for a three-day shopping spree. These three days will mark the last time the shops are open until early August, so grab mom; you won’t want to miss this event.

Outdoorsy Activities

Mother’s Day Weekend Festival
When: Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Where: 3442 Hadley Road in Hadley
Details: Le Fleur Decor’s annual celebration of Mother’s Day will feature unique plants, container gardens and garden art that is sure to make mom smile.
Local artists, vendors and food trucks will be set up for the weekend as well. Come get inspired for the gardening season and get mom the gift she’ll love!
Mother’s Day Cruises aboard the Detroit Princess Riverboat
When: Four separate cruises running on Sunday, May 14, between 11:50 a.m. and 9:15 p.m.
Boat dock: 1 Civic Center Drive in Detroit.
Details: Bring mom on board for a beautiful cruise down Detroit River, featuring delicious food, live entertainment, and amazing views. Make this Mother’s Day a memorable one on the Detroit Princess!

Mother’s Day in Nature in Howell
When: Sunday, May 14 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Where: Howell Nature Center at 1005 Triangle Lake Road.
Details: Celebrate Mother’s Day in nature with FREE admission for mothers and grandmothers! Spend time with your mom while exploring the Howell Nature Center Wildlife Park, Ambassador Trail, and Alexandria’s NatureScape.
For non-moms, admission is $8 per adult and $6 per child. Infants age 2 and under get in free. Walk-ins are welcome.

Mother’s Day Weekend at KOA
As an honorable mention, most KOA campgrounds across Michigan have specially-themed events and activities on Mother’s Day weekend. For example, at the Weidman KOA, mom will be treated to candy bar bingo, candy crafts and a tasty, totally free, sundae on Saturday, May 13.
MIOCA’s 2023 Mother’s Day Time to Teal 5k & Fun Run
When: Sunday, May 14 beginning at 8 a.m.
Where: 209 S. Ashley St. in Ann Arbor.
Details: The Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MIOCA) is proud to host the 12th Annual Mother’s Day Time to Teal event. Head out to Ann Arbor – or attend virtually – to celebrate the incredible women in your life as Mother’s Day is celebrated and World Ovarian Cancer Day is recognized. For 2023, the timed 5k will be held in-person in Downtown Ann Arbor with a fun run option on-site and a virtual race option available.

Mother’s Day Buffet at Frankenmuth
When: Sunday May 14, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Where: 1 Covered Bridge Lane at Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth.

Mother’s Day Mimosa Sunday at Wine and Canvas
When: Sunday, May 14 from noon until 3 p.m.
Where: 2675 E. Paris Ave. SE, Suite E in Grand Rapids.
Details: Leave your cares at the door and dive on in to the paint party! Enjoy step-by-step instructions on how to create custom wine glasses while you sip on your favorite beverage, in a relaxed and fun, artsy environment.
Ticket price includes use of all necessary paint supplies and aprons, instruction by a professional and friendly local artist, and two 20-ounce wing glass paintings.
The minimum age to attend this event is 21 years old.
The Wine and Canvas studio has wine, beer, and cocktails along with water and soda for purchase. Snacks are also available. Guests are welcomed to bring food and snacks into the studio.
Mother’s Day Celebration at Fox Theatre
When: Friday, May 12 at 8 p.m.
Where: 2211 Woodward Ave, in Detroit.
