Winters in Michigan means lots of layers, freezing temperatures and of course, snow. Yes, the winter months are cold, but even in the single-digit temperatures, our state still proves why it’s one of the most beautiful.
These locations are guaranteed to make you appreciate the beauty that is Pure Michigan.
Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse– When the temperatures drop and the lake starts to freeze, the Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse becomes set in ice. Bundle up and venture out onto the break wall for a classic Michigan winter picture.
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore – Northern Michigan winters are filled with ice and snow. During the winter months, large ice formations build on the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore. These ice formations grow throughout the coldest months, creating the perfect backdrop for a cool Michigan picture.
Boyne Mountain– Situated just outside Petoskey, Boyne Mountain is sure to offer amazing views of the northern lower peninsula. Take in the breathtaking views as you reach the top of the mountain. Before you head down toward the resort at the bottom, capture the view of the sunset as it peaks through the snow-covered trees.
Frankenmuth– This quaint town near Saginaw is home to Snowfest, an annual festival with larger-than-life ice sculptures and snow creations. Stop by to check out some of the coolest creations in the state. If your travel dates don’t align, you can always go to the Nickless-Hubinger Flour Mill and snap a picture along the Cass River, or with the water wheel alongside it.
Edsel and Eleanor Ford Estate– Located in Grosse Pointe on the shores of Lake St. Clair, this historic property is filled with lights during the winter months. Take a tour of the estate while sipping hot cocoa and take a picture at whichever tree has your favorite lights.
Muskegon Winter Sports Complex – Grab your friends and family and head over to the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex. Not only will you get a workout in, but you’ll be setting yourself up for the perfect picture as you luge, sled, ski, or skate your way through the woods.
