Hope College: Spotlight on Health
Let’s go Dutch! Holland is a great college town, with many local restaurants, coffeehouses and shops.
Holland provides a safe environment, a beautiful four-season campus and rigorous liberal arts classes to round out the college experience at Hope. Below are some on-campus resources to help maximize your time as a Hope student so that you can enjoy college to the fullest and become the best you!
- Dining Services: Most students at Hope eat in one of the two dining halls (Phelps or Cook) regularly. Both feature an excellent salad bar and deli where students can make their own healthy salads and sandwiches. When eating in the dining halls, be mindful of your eating habits and try to incorporate healthy fruits and vegetables with each meal.
- Hope College Athletic Facilities: Hope is home to eight different athletic facilities, including two weight rooms, four stadiums, a pool and multiple tennis courts, all for students’ use. Plus, it’s free!
- Hope’s Dow Center is home to a weight room, a gymnasium with two basketball courts, racquetball courts, Kresge Natatorium, an indoor track, and the Department of Dance, which features four dance studios equipped for ballet, modern, folk-social, jazz and swing dance. Students are free to make use of all areas in the Dow so long as a class or sporting event is not in session.
- DeVos Fieldhouse is a premier NCAA Division III basketball and volleyball facility and is home to a weight-training facility, dance studio and multiple classrooms. Inside, students are free to play sports, work out, or when in season, cheer on their fellow Dutch athletes, as both the men’s and women’s basketball teams and the women’s volleyball team call DeVos home.
- The Gordon Brewer Outdoor Track and Etheridge Tennis Complex are also available for student use.
- Intramural Sports: Hope offers a variety of intramural sports throughout the school year, which offers a great way to make friends and have fun. Try out soccer, flag football, volleyball, badminton, basketball, softball – even water polo. - Student Activities Committee (SAC): SAC is a student-led organization that serves to plan, organize and oversee student activities at Hope College. SAC sponsors numerous events, with at least one event occurring every week. SAC often brings in special performers, hosts unique shows and puts on a variety of events to engage students in life on Hope’s campus. Visit SAC’s website and make plans to get involved here.
- Counseling and Psychological Services, CAPS: CAPS is a free resource center for any student enrolled at Hope College. Counselors are available to help students navigate obstacles or mental health concerns with full confidentiality. CAPS offer both group and individual counseling options.
- Health Center: The Health Center offers specialized medical care and campus-wide education for students. Should you get sick or sustain an injury at school, the Health Center is the place to go. Providers include medical doctors, a physician assistant and registered nurses. According to the Health Center’s website: “we treat most college health concerns. When specialty care is needed, you may be referred to a local provider. All currently enrolled, full- and part-time, degree-seeking students are eligible to use our confidential services for their health care.”
