Being a Wayne State Warrior offers so many opportunities, including being a part of the beautiful and historic Midtown and Downtown Detroit landscape.
While there’s a lot to take part in during the year, it’s important to know about some of the available on-campus resources you can take advantage of when school and work responsibilities become too strenuous.
Here are some tips and tricks to help get through the exciting and sometimes stressful college experience at Wayne State University.
Food
  • Towers Dining Hall and Gold ‘n’ Greens: One of the best parts about living in the dorms at Wayne State University is the consistent access to quality dining. However, if you are vegan or vegetarian, take advantage of the Gold ‘n’ Greens cafeteria that has an array of healthy and diverse options, all day long.
  • Healthy Recipes: Tired of the same old ramen and day-old pizza routine? A Healthier Michigan has you covered with some easy and cost-effective meals for your daily schedule.
Fitness
There are cost-effective ways to stay in shape during your time at Wayne State.
  • Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center – What many incoming students don’t know is that this incredible facility is included with the tuition fee. Take a study break by working out in this facility or consider joining a class to de-stress at the end of the day. These classes offer a wide range of options, from yoga to hula hooping.
Community
  • Student Organizations – There are plenty of ways to be involved on campus throughout the school year. Whether you want to be involved in student government, become a resident advisor, be involved in Greek life or work with like-minded students in your field, there are opportunities all over campus. For more information on all the organizations on campus, check the list of groups available.
  • Academic Success Center – College is not always as easy as it seems and it is perfectly fine to use resources to help succeed whenever you need assistance with classes. Pick your options, ranging from peer-to-peer to Student Success workshops.
Mind
  • Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) – It is perfectly okay to not be okay. However, it is important to find the proper resources to help with your personal and mental health. Once you apply for personal counseling, you are paired with the counselor that can best help you with your needs. For more information about how to apply for CAPS, visit https://caps.wayne.edu/.
Prevention
  • Campus Health CenterThis full-service primary care clinic serves the Wayne State community daily and keeps students and staff members up-to-date on their personal health. In addition, each WSU student is eligible for one free medical visit per semester. The Health Center assists in monitoring acute illnesses, chronic illnesses (such as the flu, infections, UTIs, etc.) and offers help with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure.
Use our checklist to make sure you’re ready for the new semester.
