Try Moonlight Yoga This Summer
Interested in trying a unique twist on traditional yoga?
Switch up your standard yoga routine this month (July 11 and 25, 2018 @ 8:00 p.m.) with Moonlight Yoga along West Riverfront Park in Detroit, courtesy of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy (DRFC).
Attendees are provided glow necklaces, bracelets and 16-inch glow batons to incorporate into various poses led by local yoga instructor Michelle Moten of Detroit’s Urban Solace. Space is limited to 150 attendees per session, so advance registration at detroitriverfront.org is required. Participation costs $5 per person; however, scholarships are available for eligible individuals. Check-in starts at 7:30 p.m.
Between the breathtaking Detroit scenery and fun twist on yoga, this experience creates the perfect balance of fun and working out. What better way to relax mid-week?
Yoga can relieve stress, strengthen muscles and improve flexibility. According to Healthline, studies have also shown that practicing yoga can reduce inflammation, lower anxiety and help manage chronic pain.
Some may not be aware that yoga is also an excellent body strength builder. According to a 2015 study, there has been a linkage of increased endurance, strength and flexibility in 173 participants over 12 weeks. Finding time to exercise during a busy work week may seem tedious, but it’s well worth it.
