#MIKidsCan Experience Fitness at the 2017 GR Hispanic Festival

Looking for new physical activities that will motivate your kids to add more movement to their day?
With nearly one in three Michigan children between the ages of 10 and 17 considered overweight or obese, exercise is an important way to help your kids not become a statistic or to help them deal with their weight if they are struggling.
If you live in West Michigan, there’s a great opportunity to expose your kids to new fitness trends happening this weekend at the 40th annual Hispanic Festival taking place in downtown Grand Rapids. Kids will be able to try a variety of exercises and dances at the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan #MIKidsCan fitness area, located within the Meijer Kids’ Corner on Calder Plaza.
  • Saturday, Aug. 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.: Alternating sessions of boot camp, Zumba and dance intro sessions featuring ballet/tap and jazz/hip hop are scheduled.
  • Sunday, Aug. 27 from 12:15 to 4:15 p.m.: Kids can learn yoga poses or take part in a drumming-inspired workout called Pound.
The 15-minute sessions are being taught by fitness instructors from Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation and the Greater Grand Rapids YMCA. Kids who participate will be registered for prizes.
While you’re there, check out the YMCA’s Veggie Van and the Blue Cross-sponsored 3-on-3 Futsal tournament, taking place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Both are great ways to drive home healthy eating and exercise messages to your kids as you enjoy the sights and sounds of the Hispanic Festival.
