Michigan is a place full of amazing communities – something that bloggers who are based here know a lot about. They manage to educate and inspire their readers all over the state, sharing their own experiences and bringing together strangers to share theirs. In addition to blogging about all of the great things Michigan has to offer, these seven bloggers also focus some of their posts on healthy living and staying happy in the Mitten state. That got us wondering: What do those bloggers wish they could tell their younger selves? Check out their answers below and their blogs for a little homegrown inspiration.

What would you tell your younger self?
Dear younger and carefree-er Mariah, remember when you first read that quote? The one by Maya Angelou that said “When someone shows you who they are believe them; the first time.” Read it, then re-read it, and never forget it. P.S. You’re going to love being vegan!

What would you tell your younger self?
I would tell my younger self to be more confident and stand up for yourself, the things you believe in and those who need a helping hand. It may not always be easy, but it’s so important and empowering to believe in yourself and be a voice for others. You never know when being brave can make a huge impact in your life or another person’s life. I would tell her to rest more. It’s easy to get caught up in the fear of missing out, but sleep is so important towards your mental and physical health. As I get older, I value my rest more and more.

What would you tell your younger self?
No matter how young you are, you can make a difference in the world. Always be kind, always listen, work hard, follow your heart and love those around you. You’re capable of so much, so don’t ever forget that.

What would you tell your younger self?
Embrace the person you are because you are smart, beautiful and strong. By loving yourself you will be confident and happy. When you are confident and happy with yourself, healthy habits and positive body image follow. Stop using self-hatred as a means to change and start using love as a means to find a healthy happy life.

What would you tell your younger self?
Three things – something simple, something difficult to hear and something worthwhile. The first thing I would say is simply to start every day with a positive mindset—it will not only bring positive results, but it will also inspire others to do the same. The second is that change is constant. When it does happen though, you will be ready for it, handle it gracefully and find out that you are much stronger than you ever realized. Lastly, a worthwhile note, which I’ve learned recently, is that joy and strength can come from the same unexpected place and you will be pleasantly surprised when you figure that out.

What would you tell your younger self?
Don’t worry so much, take time for yourself, and schedule time for meal planning and exercise. Worrying isn’t good for anybody. Wearing a smile and treating others with kindness will make you more attractive than you’ll ever know. Life gets really busy, so take time to say yes to yourself. Also, don’t let important things like meal planning and exercise get pushed off your plate. Set a goal and schedule these things into your calendar. But give yourself lots of grace. If you miss a workout, it’s not the end of the world. The important thing is that you should focus on loving yourself and taking care of your body.
