Michigan 5k races
Let’s be honest, finding the motivation to get outside and run can be difficult. On the other hand, when you’re excited about working towards a goal like finishing a 5K, running 3.1 miles feels like no sweat (okay, maybe a little sweat). Get your friends together and sign up for one of these fun 5Ks happening throughout Michigan this summer!
  1. Light Up the Rez
Explore the Pine Creek Indian Reservation at dusk as you race through streets and off-road trails in glowing gear. The race is organized by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi and all proceeds will benefit a charity decided on race day (participants get to vote for the charity of their choice).
    When: June 17
    Where: Fulton
    Cost: $25
  1. Cheetah Chase
The animals will become the spectators at the Binder Park Zoo for this 5K as participants run past kangaroos, wolves, giraffes, zebras, antelope and more.
    When: June 25
    Where: Battle Creek
    Cost: $30 pre-registration, $40 day-of
  1. The Color Run
If you’ve never experienced the “Happiest 5K on the Planet,” this summer is the perfect time. As part of the Tropicolor World Tour, the course now includes palm trees, tropical scents, island-style music and a Rainbow Beach finish festival.

    Where: Lansing
Cost: $40 (price subject to increase)
  1. Mount Baldy Summit Run
This race is actually a 6K and is on an incline, so it’s a little more challenging than the others. But the scenic summit views of the U.P. make it worth it! This climb is one of several events in the Run the Keweenaw series, benefitting the local community.
    When: July 11
    Where: Eagle Harbor
Cost: $35 (price subject to increase on June 26)
  1. Frankenmüdder
Climb, run, crawl and swim your way through this boot camp-style course featuring 17 muddy obstacles. This race supports Michigan’s Military and Space Heroes Museum.
    When: July 16
    Where: Frankenmuth
    Cost: $75 pre-registration, $85 day-of (discounts available for teams and military/veteran runners)
  1. The Super Run
Participating in this 5K gives you the opportunity to dress like a superhero and act like one, too! Become a caped crusader and use your superpowers for good by fundraising for your favorite local children’s charity.
    When: August 6
    Where: Ann Arbor
    Cost: $35 before July 6, $40 July 6 to day-of, $45 day-of (discounts available for teams)
  1. Storm the Beach
Enjoy gorgeous views along the shores of Lake Huron as you make your way to the finish line. For those looking for an added challenge, there is an optional Farm Fit course with agriculture-related obstacles.

    Cost: $20 pre-registration without t-shirt, $25 pre-registration with t-shirt before August 1, $25 day-of
  1. LOL 5K
The Laugh Out Loud 5K aims to get you to do just that. With Spirit Stations along the course featuring live music, dancers, cheer squads and more, you’re sure to be entertained. Race proceeds will support LAUGH Inc. programming as well as the Texas Township Parks and Trails Development Committee.
    When: August 13
    Where: Kalamazoo
    Cost: $30
  1. Glow in the Park
By the end of this Metro Detroit event, runners will find themselves dancing along to the music and covered in foam, fluorescent glow paint, rainbow glow water and neon powder. While some may participate in races to set records, the real competition here will be found at the 80s-themed costume contest.
    When: August 20
    Where: Milford
    Cost: $35 before June 30, $40 July 1 to August 18, $45 day-of (discounts available for teams)
