Detroit Grand Prix Volunteers Ready for Race Day
The Motor City brings back the hot wheels the weekend of June 3 for another metal and pedal pushing showdown at the 2016 Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. The weekend will feature the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans IndyCar double header.
Suzanne Palmer, a past volunteer and current employee of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, joined the Detroit Grand Prix Association last year and again this year.
“I love to volunteer my time to help out in any way I can. I have always loved the Grand Prix with the loud fast race cars, with all the excitement that fills the air and to hear the squealing of the tires, the speed, the noise of the mechanics working on the race cars and of course the race drivers,” said Palmer.
Palmer notes the significance of serving at events in the city as a way of helping revitalize Detroit. “With the rebuilding of Detroit, we are showing the nation that we are coming back stronger than ever.”
Grand Prix volunteer opportunities include food service, providing information materials to update spectators, ushering and many more. Volunteers can receive credit for community service experience, but must be a member of the Detroit Grand Prix Association to volunteer.
The experience of volunteering can be both enriching and fun. Palmer says she experienced the excitement as much as spectators.
“For me, watching all the spectators have fun and seeing their big smiles when they hear the roar of the engines of the race cars and seeing the excitement in their eyes is priceless!”
