Colonial Michilimackinac Recreates Historic Gardens {Video}

 

Can you imagine having to haul buckets to and from a lake during Michigan’s hot summers to keep your garden watered? Or having to rely on preserving food you grew for household and medicinal purposes during Michigan’s bitter cold winters?

Gardens played an important role in life at Colonial Michilimackinac more than 250 years ago. Today, the staff has recreated 13 gardens based on archaeological work conducted on the grounds of the site to give visitors a taste of 18th-century life.
