Flint Farmers Market
The Flint Farmer’s Market is one of the best places to buy fresh produce in Genessee County. The market has a nearly 110-year history and is loved by locals. Since it’s original start at the corner of Beach and Kearsley Streets in 1905, the market has grown both in size and following.
Nearly 50 vendors can be found within the building, and another 50 fill the outdoor sheds during the summer months.
The market recently relocated to a facility that’s been undergoing modern refurbishing. Due to a major need for restoration and damage repair at the old site, the market moved to the former Flint Journal printing facility at 300 E. First Street in last June, and has seen nothing but success since. With over 350,000 visitors to the new location, the Flint Farmers’ Market staff report that business is booming!
Products at the market range from fresh meats, cheeses and produce, to local Michigan favorites like popcorn, caramel apples and sweets. Unique finds like chestnuts, Indian corn and herbs are also abound. There is even a small exhibit from the Flint Children’s Museum for kids to run around and play with plastic grocery toys.
The market also has dining options, coffee stations, a Michigan-made gift shop, a massive demonstration kitchen and a sizable community room. Local events are held in the kitchen and community room throughout the year, and fitness events occur as pop-ups within the gathering spaces and even among market vendors themselves!
All in all, a visit to the Flint Farmer’s Market is a great way to kick off 2015 on a healthy note. Be sure to stop by soon!
The Flint Farmer’s Market is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
