The Best Healthy Meet-Ups Across Michigan
Finding motivation to work out on your own can be a daunting task. But get others involved and physical activity can get transformed into a task you look forward to daily. Accordingly to a study published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, social support is not only crucial to getting active in the first place, it can also increase the amount of time an individual devotes to physical activity.
But what happens when you don’t have a friend who wants to do your favorite activity with you? Consider joining up with one of these “meet-ups” across the state that can help you get fit and meet new people.
- What is it? Slow Roll has become one of Michigan’s largest weekly bike rides, now with more than 3,000 bikers joining in each week. Its slow pace gives bikers a unique perspective of the surrounding area and makes it ideal for everyone of all ages and skill sets.

- When? Monday nights at 6:30 p.m.
- What is it? The West Michigan Kayaking Club was founded in 2010 to bring together friends and fellow kayakers to enjoy and explore Michigan’s rivers. There are no dues and no fees to join, and kayakers of all levels are welcome. Be sure to check out each specific event ahead of time to know what to bring, as it varies from week to week.
- Where? Various locations across West Michigan

- Who are they? Wyandotte Walkers is a group of individuals who are interested in getting together and walk (just as the name implies). The organizer of this group recently lost 50 pounds by walking and created this group to inspire others to do the same.
