7 Small Snacks to Keep Your Metabolism Up All Day Long
We’ve all experienced the dreaded mid-morning or afternoon crash. Sometimes it hits you after the morning coffee’s effects have worn off, other times it’s when you’ve had a big lunch and just feel ready to quit for the day. But fear not! Your daily energy plateau can be eliminated with just a handful of certain foods.
From nutritious fruits to protein-packed beans, there are many options to give your metabolism a boost throughout the day and all you need is a handful of each. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Blueberries- the antioxidants and fiber in blueberries work together to help your body burn fat fast. They also contain a high Vitamin C concentration!
- Nuts- almonds contain many healthy fats and pistachios are loaded with protein, fiber, potassium and magnesium. Just be sure to get raw nuts rather than salted or seasoned flavors.
- Dried cherries- though fresh cherries are delicious, they are often hard to find in season. Dried ones last longer and are typically much easier to locate. Their makeup helps oxidize fat and boost energy levels, just eat them sparingly throughout the day to minimize sugar overdoses.
- Flaxseed- omega-3 acids and high fiber contents in flax provide energy bursts when you need them. Sprinkle flax onto salads, soups and even yogurt for a healthy boost.
- Roasted chickpeas- protein, fiber, calcium, potassium, magnesium and iron are all found in these beans. Bake and season and you’ve got an easy snack to go! A handful of chickpeas will easily tide you over until mealtime.
- Kale chips- if baked simply with olive oil and salt, the healthy fat and vitamins in kale chips make them a great filler for mid-day.
- Baby carrots- low in calories and high in Vitamin A, these little snacks are great to load up with if you’re low on calories for the day.
