Running toward my #HealthyMe goal

JoggingWho knew jogging could be so amazing? I certainly didn’t, until this weekend when I jogged around the track of a local park. I woke up Saturday morning with an unusual burst of energy. The weather was beautiful, the birds were chirping and something inside me just felt like getting outside and going for jog, which is strange because I don’t run or jog, ever. Something about the combination of my asthma and allergies just makes it difficult to run but I decided to give it a shot anyway.

I started with a brisk walk around a track that was 1.2 miles, then off I went. I started slow and had to stop after about a quarter of a mile, to catch my breath, and to my surprise I didn’t feel like passing out. I caught my breath and started up again, this time a made it a half a mile until I had to catch my breath. I kept it up until I was up to a mile total. This may seem small to some, but for me, this is a huge accomplishment. Not only did I prove to myself that I am capable of running but it makes me feel incredible.

Recently, I have experienced severe back pain after a run, but this time my back felt so much better. All of the tension that I was fostering in my neck and back loosened up, making me feel more relaxed. I am still amazed at what running can do for the body.

Now that I have been meeting my original goal of making healthier food choices, my new #HealthyMe goal is to run or jog a mile three times a week. I will try a morning and an evening run to see which one I like more, but I could certainly get used to this Saturday morning jog.
