Road trip-worthy spots around Michigan
Going on vacation with the family doesn’t have to mean spending thousands of dollars on plane tickets and battling the crowds at the airport. You’re lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful states in the country (we aren’t biased at all!), so take advantage of local attractions. These three drive-able destinations are easy to get to and are a great way to fill the downtime when your kids aren’t in school. Just pile everyone into your car and hit the road. Last but not least, don’t forget to pack some healthy snacks (so you aren’t forced to eat fast food the entire way) and drive safely!
Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak: Winter is prime time to see animals like Griffin, the zoo’s Japanese Macaque (a.k.a. snow monkey), polar bears and penguins. Go before January 5th and you can see the zoo covered in holiday lights.
Treetops Resort and Spa in Gaylord: Tubing, a terrain park, cross country skiing, 23 runs for downhill skiing and snowboarding and a full spa make this a resort everyone in the family can enjoy.
Shanty Creek Resorts in Bellaire: More is more at Shanty Creek. With its two different mountains (Schuss and Summit), this resort boasts 53 different runs for skiing and snowboarding. There’s also tubing, snowshoeing, dogsled rides, and snowmobiling.
