2013 Traverse City tree lighting
This past weekend, Traverse City joined other cities around Michigan with its annual Christmas tree lighting. The tree, located in the heart of downtown Traverse City at Cass and Front Street, was one of the many highlights within the night’s festivities. The city also welcomed the arrival of Santa, ice sculptures, caroling, antique fire engine rides, and a special discounted shopping event from participating local businesses.
Carolers and attendees joined in with singing holiday songs in front of the tree while the festivities were set to begin. Once Santa arrived to commence the tree lighting, city officials presented him with a key to the city to make sure he remembered his way back for Christmastime.
Following the tree lighting, swarms of people migrated to the plaza area in front of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan office where Santa’s brand new house was installed just a couple days prior. Santa listened to all of the kids’ Christmas lists, and ice sculptures provided beautiful entertainment throughout the night.
