2013 Grand Rapids GRAM tree lighting
As we kick off the holiday season across the state, Grand Rapids joined in with the annual Christmas tree lighting outside the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) and Rosa Parks Circle. On December 6th, the cold weather did not deter hundreds from making the trek downtown to join in the festivities of lighting the 42-foot tree.
Joining in the night’s celebration, Rosa Parks Circle officially opened its ice skating rink for the season—a true sign of Christmastime in Grand Rapids. City officials and attendees burst out in song and dance while anticipating the lights on the tree.
To kick off the night, figure skater and student at Forest Hills Northern in Grand Rapids, Megan Sauer, treated attendees to a skating performance as the opening of the 2013-2014 ice skating season at Rosa Parks Circle. This year’s highlighted attendee, Make-A-Wish recipient and cancer survivor, Kristi Kortman, led the countdown, as well as flipping the switch for the lighting of the tree.
