What’s going on this weekend? August 14 to August 20, 2012 edition

The weather forecast for most of Michigan this weekend is beautiful!  Not to hot, not too cool and plenty of sunshine.  So why not enjoy this summer weekend by checking out one of these five events happening around Michigan.

1.)   National Blueberry Festival: Blueberry picking in Paradise dates back to the 1880’s, when logging was king in the Upper Peninsula.  The festival celebrates that heritage with pancakes, pies and other great treats.  There is plenty of family friendly entertainment for everyone to enjoy once they have enjoyed all the blueberries they can stomach!

2.)   Michigan Renaissance Festival: If you want to experience the medieval times, then come down to Holly, MI and enjoy the Renaissance festival. This festival goes from Aug. 18- Sept. 30 and will be filled with fire-juggling, sword fighting, comedy, music, and of course tasty meals! Feel free to dress up in your favorite costume while joining in the festivities.  There will be different events occurring throughout the event including the 1st Annual Queen Cupcake Wars, a hot wing eating competition, a Scotch egg eating contest and the men in kilts competition.  This festival definitely contains entertainment for all ages so mark your calendar to make sure you don’t miss out.

3.)   Woodward Dream Cruise: Get ready to put on your blue suede shoes and jam out to the hits of the 50s while enjoying a day filled with classic cars and great entertainment!  The Woodward Dream Cruise begins Aug. 16-18 in Ferndale and will work its way through the Detroit area. It will go through Berkley, Royal Oak, Pontiac, Bloomfield Hills and Bloomfield Twp. The Dream Cruise is a tradition that has been going on since 1995 and today it is the world’s largest one-day automotive event, drawing 1.5 million people from around the globe and 40,000 classic cars each year.

4.)   The UP State Fair: From Aug. 13-19 come enjoy carnival rides, face painting and delicious elephant ears at Michigan’s Upper Peninsula State Fair. This fair will be held in Escanaba at the Fair Grounds and will have everything from Ferris wheels to live entertainment.

5.)   Petoskey’s Festival on the Bay:  Petoskey, MI is once again holding their 10th annual Festival on the Bay event from Aug. 17-19. This event will have live music, great food, fun activities, and of course the beautiful view of Little Traverse Bay. Come celebrate by taking a boat ride around the bay and enjoying the breath taking sunset.
