Have ‘A Sip of Michigan’ for a healthy community at upcoming Detroit event
The dynamic duo behind the website Drink Michigan has a great way for you to sample some of the best tipple the Great Lake State has to offer. Their event, A Sip of Michigan, will be held at the Rattlesnake Club in Detroit on Friday, July 13.
For $50, you can enjoy samples from more than 20 Michigan-based wineries, breweries and distilleries as well as food created to pair well with the evening’s samples. Live karaoke will be on tap to make sure you are thoroughly entertained as you taste your way around the state. And a portion of the proceeds help the domestic violence shelter First Step.
The health benefits of enjoying adult beverages in moderation are clear. For example, a stout is a good source of iron, a mineral your body uses to make blood cells. Red wine is thought to be an excellent source of the antioxidant resveratrol, which is credited with helping prevent damage to blood vessels, reducing bad cholesterol and preventing blood clots.
Moderate drinking of any sort is thought to reduce gallstones and lower the risk of adults developing Type 2 diabetes.
The key here is moderation, thought by many studies to be less than two drinks per day. Weill Cornell Medical College’s publication, Food and Fitness Advisor, suggests that a drink can be defined as:
- 12 ounces of beer
- 5 ounces of wine
- 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits
