Start your Independence Day with a blast at the Ann Arbor Firecracker 5K
Looking for a way to start off your Fourth of July with a bang? If so, then you’re in luck. The Ann Arbor Firecracker 5K is fast approaching and it’s sure to be a blast!
Beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4th, runners will dash down the streets of Ann Arbor through a course filled with some of the city’s hottest landmarks. Some notable sights en route of the finish line include the State Theater, the Michigan Union and the Diag, my personal favorite spot on campus for reading and people watching.
If you find yourself getting distracted by Ann Arbor’s scenery and eclectic student body, don’t worry. The A2 Firecracker 5K doesn’t have to be competitive. The run stops when you reach the finish line, so feel free to enjoy your run while admiring the backdrop of the city.
For those with children, Ann Arbor also has the 100 Meter Kids Dash at 9:30 a.m. This fun run is a great chance for kids to get the exercise they need in a cool and non-competitive way. The event also helps encourage healthy living and the need for recreation in the younger generation.
Registration for the Firecracker 5K begins July 1st for those looking to run in either the 5K or the 100 meter Kids Dash. $4 from each registration goes towards the UM Project Healthy Schools, a program focused on the fight against childhood obesity.
The Ann Arbor Firecracker 5K is sure to be fun for the whole family, so be sure to register! This marathon is shaping up to be one of the hottest runs of the summer season.
