#MenofMI: Show your heart some love and strengthen your core

Exercising regularly is one of the best ways to show your heart some authentic man love.  By working out for at least 30 minutes per day, you are less likely to encounter the top man killer, heart disease.

The benefits of exercise are amazing:

  1. You’ll feel better because physical activity helps to release endorphins, which are also known as the feel-good hormone, in your brain
  2. You’ll look great because you’ll be blasting fat and toning muscles, just in time for beach season
  3. As much as pumping iron can benefit you in these ways, it’ll get your heart pumping, too

Strong of heart

Cardio and abdominal exercises are two types of physical activity that can strengthen your heart.  When I think of cardio, I immediately think of running or jogging, but there are many other forms of cardio you can try  if you feel like mixing it up a bit.  Some fun summer examples include swimming, bicycling, jumping rope and kayaking.

Crunches are one of the most well-known types of abdominal exercises.  Ab exercises are important because they help strengthen your core.  Ball crunches, reverse crunches, planks and pushups are some quick abdominal exercises you can do almost anywhere.

No matter what exercise routine you choose, make sure to make it fun.  You’ll stay engaged, interested and enjoy it.  What’s not to love about that?
