Enjoy the Summer Surf and Sand at these Michigan Beaches
Living in a place with such bone-chilling winters, we Michiganders appreciate a good beach more than anyone. When the weather is finally right for a weekend getaway, we certainly have quite an array of beaches to visit. The Great Lakes have provided us with many wonderful outlets for our water sports and sand castle building, so instead of jetting off to Florida this summer, plan a road trip to one of Michigan’s own sandy havens.
Grand Haven Beach
One of Michigan’s best known beaches – that Michiganders flock to every summer – offers miles of golden beach, clear Lake Michigan waters, and the wide-array of available water sports. Not to mention the annual Coast Guard Festival, which includes activities such as carnival rides, parades and ship tours.
Another beach that’s perfect for sandy family fun, Silver Beach features play areas for children and pavilions for rent. It is also home to a well-known Michigan festival, the Venetian Festival, which combines music and food for a great time.
Petoskey State Park
Not only does this park boast a beautiful beach, but it also has a little something for everyone: hiking, beach houses and playgrounds. Maybe you’ll get lucky and even find a couple keep-sake Petoskey stones to take back home.
Muskegon offers a handful of beaches, all of which would be worth your time. One of its beaches, Pere Marquette Beach, has even been nationally named a “clean beach”. This is a great place for those interested in sampling a few beaches in one trip.
After you check out these Michigan staples let us know what other places your family loves to visit in the summer! What do you think are some of Michigan’s greatest vacation treasures?
