How to Warm-Up Before a Game of Golf
The U.S. Open is happening now, so that means the golf season is in full effect. Prior to starting your golf game, or when participating in any kind of physical activity, warming up the body – along with stretching – is essential. It will help you get the most out of your golf game, or other activity of your choice.
Walk the Walk
To help increase the workout during a golf game, don’t forget to ask about walking the course. The following is the average calories burned for someone who weighs 175 pounds:
- Walking 9 holes and carrying your golf bag – about 725 calories
- Walking 9 holes and using a golf bag push cart – about 685 calories
- Walking 9 holes and having a caddie carry your bag – about 620 calories
- Riding in a cart for 9 holes – about 410 calories
Anytime you are outside in the summer heat and playing golf, do not forget to protect your skin with sunscreen or sunblock and drink plenty of water. You should have 16-32 ounces every hour. The hotter and more humid it is, the more water you should drink. It will keep you focused, hydrated and will help you play well.
Here is a short video illustrating some of the best ways you can warm-up and stretch before and after your golf game.
Get out there and enjoy the golf season!
