By just looking at someone, you can tell if they’re strong and in shape. Right? Come on, that guy at the beach looks like he could bench press me! Well maybe he can, but there’s also a chance he just looks the part. At Art of Strength, we want you to not just look the part but be the part too.
Our philosophy is that cardio vascular strength has been lost in the shuffle of quick result workouts and diets. We’re looking to build quality, not quantity.
When sculpting your body, you must...

The recent nationwide recall of 550 million eggs after 1,500 people were sickened from salmonella contamination is underlining once again critical problems in the nation’s food production industry.
Notice I didn’t saying farming or farm system. That’s because modern food production is a far cry from the traditional (if admittedly imperfect) stewardship of land to raise the plants and animals that we eat. As The New York Times recently pointed out (PDF), most egg-laying hens nowadays are ...

HAPPY SEPTEMBER! Yes, it’s time to change the page on your calendar and to start preparing to soon say “goodbye” to summer and “hello!” to autumn! I’m loving the idea of autumn approaching: comfortable, cotton, oversized sweatshirts; vibrant shades of orange and yellow leaves falling from the trees; and cool, crisp weather to venture out into for a long, brisk walk! It doesn’t get much better than that! Hey, speaking of a long walk, did you hear about the 63-year-old man who walked m...

I’ve written before about my experiences last year in the 2009 Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure and also talked about my recent involvement with the 60-Mile Men.
I walked in the Michigan 3-Day again this year and I think there’s one initial word that can summarize the whole thing: HOT. I don’t think I’ve ever felt heat like that, although, how often are you walking 20 miles a day continuously in it? If I had to bet, I was probably drinking about 3 gallons of water a day, and needed eve...

This blog is inspired by one of my dear and talented friends. Tera Renee has decided to follow her dreams and move to New York to pursue her career as singer.
Check her out singing a cover of "We All Want The Same Things."
This got me thinking about life and doing what you love. Obviously, it does not have to be at such a large scale. However, the peace and joy it could bring to your life if you do incorporate something you love to do, could be life altering...

Do you live in a state of denial? If your immediate response was “no, of course not,” then I would highly suggest that you take a moment to REALLY think about it. I’m convinced that nearly everyone lives in a state of denial in some area of their life. The particular area and the degree of denial will vary from person to person, of course, but in my relatively short 34 years on this earth, I’ve come to the conclusion that we humans are masterful artists when it comes to denial.
One of my ...

Can you believe it’s the last Monday of August already? I can honestly say this past month went by very quickly, most likely because it was an enjoyable one... and as the saying goes, “time flies when you’re having fun!” I definitely met some wonderful people last month, and hope to continue to do the same this September. I wanted to inform you that this coming Labor Day weekend, I will be spending time in Downtown Royal Oak at the Arts, Beats & Eats Festival – http://www.artsbeat...

I know, it's been awhile since I blogged but, August was a busy month and had a number of projects that I was working on and it's the last full month of summer and just wanted to soak it all in.
But, it's back to the grind since Labor Day is only a few days away.
I mentioned awhile back about how I was doing 200 pushups in 5 minutes where basically I was spreading the pushups out over the course of the day and not just doing them in one session.
I continued doing this for a few...

Can you believe it is that time again? Back-to-School time! Are you and your kids ready? The best way to make sure your kids are getting a healthy meal is by packing one for them to bring. Here are some great school lunch ideas from Fitness Magazine that could also work for you.
Comfort Food Lovers - PB&J on whole wheat bread, try to choose natural peanut butter (or nut butter of your choice) and no sugar added jelly, serve with a piece of fruit and some veggie chips or sweet potato c...
