Jodi lost 162 pounds in 16 months, and she’s kept it off for 10 years. How did she do it? Simply by walking and eating healthier. Now Jodi is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s walking and healthy living advocate.
Ten years ago Jodi attended the funeral of a family member. Like her, this woman was morbidly obese. As Jodi looked on as her family mourned she realized that it could have been her in that casket. And that is the day she decided to make a serious lifestyle change.Jodi’s personal triumph and passion for walking, coupled with her desire to help people reach their goals, make her an ideal spokesperson for healthy living. Jodi truly cares about each individual’s unique weight-loss challenges and wants to help inspire their success.
1. What is your favorite thing about living in Michigan?
I love the lakes, especially Lake Michigan and the amazing summer sunsets.
2. What things do you find yourself doing that you said you’d “never” do?
I had always said that I would “never” exercise, but now that I’ve lost my excess weight, I find that I enjoy exercising more than I ever thought possible. In fact, I NEVER thought I would participate in any 5K races…and now I do! It’s amazing to know that I was once morbidly obese and couldn’t even run. Now I can run and do cartwheels. Pretty good for a mom in her 40s!
3. What are your favorite ways to stay healthy?
I love to walk with my dogs every day but I also enjoy heavy yard work – it helps keep my arms strong. And my old habit of continuously focusing on food is gone. I eat to live instead of living to eat.
4. What songs or artists are in heavy rotation in your iPod right now?
My iPod contains several Rod Stewart songs plus lots of country music by Rascal Flatts, Jo Dee Messina and Shania Twain. I also have hundreds of classic rock songs from the ‘70s – basically anything I can dance to.
5. What are your favorite things to read online? How do you stay informed and inspired?
I enjoy reading the latest health studies pertaining to weight loss, weight gain and obesity. I stay informed through links that my Facebook friends send me. They care about good health just as much as I do!
My inspiration comes from “the old me”…the memories of the obese life will never be forgotten and I don’t want to return there ever again.
