Fall in Michigan is the perfect time of year to log some miles on your bike.
Cooler temperatures, lower humidity and gorgeous fall colors are perfect reasons to hit the road or trail. If you’re looking to amp it up this fall by finding a unique biking event to take part in, look no further! We’ve found five rides and races across the state that will help you make this prime biking season the best one yet.
  1. MMM Gravel Grinder, Saturday, Sep. 28; Boyne City; For those that want both an extreme challenge or an easy day with the kids, this race is a great opportunity to have both. Ranging from their flat 18 mile course fit for kids to the grueling 60 mile hill trek, start your fall off with a workout.
  1. Ride 4 Recovery, Sunday, Sept. 29; Richmond: With different distances to choose from on the Macomb Orchard Trail, this is a great event for riders of all ages and experience levels. The best part? All proceeds benefit CARE of Southeastern Michigan’s prevention programs and efforts to educate communities on substance use disorders. If you can’t make it in person, there’s even a virtual ride that lets you support the mission.
  1. Colorburst Bicycle Tour, Sunday, Oct. 12; Lowell: The timing of this event will surely make for beautiful fall views along your route. There are four road routes and two dirt routes to choose from, with proceeds benefiting local bike-related charities. The event also honors two local cyclists who were killed by drunk drivers.
  1. Bike the Bridge, Monday, Oct. 28; Detroit/Windsor: You’ll need your passport for this unique ride, which starts and ends in Windsor, crossing the Ambassador Bridge into Detroit for a portion. The event is put on by Tour de Troit, an organization devoted to encouraging health and wellness through running and cycling, which includes collaborating on and supporting non-motorized infrastructure in Detroit and southeast Michigan.
  1. Iceman Cometh Challenge, Saturday, Nov. 2; Kalkaska/Traverse City: Although the approximately 30-mile distance is sold out, the eight-mile Meijer Slush Cup and the Sno-Cone race, just for riders 10 and younger, still have entries available – get them before they’re gone! This long-running northern Michigan mountain biking race is a community favorite, sponsored by many local organizations and businesses, including Blue Care Network.
