Zingerman’s Deli Turkey Urfa Chili

Ingredients

2 Tbs. canola oil

1 ½ cups diced onion

1 lb. (16 ounces) ground turkey

1 Tbs. (3 cloves) minced garlic

2 ½ tsp. ground cumin

2 ½ tsp. green chile powder

1 ½ Tbs. Urfa pepper

1 Tbs. sea salt

1 tsp. ground black pepper

3 (15-ounce) cans of kidney beans, drained

1 (28-ounce) canned, or about 3 ½ cups freshly diced tomatoes

1 (28-ounce) canned, or about 3 ½ cups freshly crushed tomatoes

Sour cream or Greek yogurt for topping

Chopped green onions for topping

Zingerman’s Deli Turkey Urfa Chili

Instructions
1. In a large stockpot, heat the oil and sauté the onions over medium to low heat until they are translucent.
2. Add the ground turkey and minced garlic. Stir frequently and actively break up the turkey to avoid clumping. Cook the turkey completely.
3. Add the cumin, green chile powder, Urfa pepper, salt, and pepper. If you have trouble tracking down green chile powder or Urfa pepper, you can swap in red pepper flakes to achieve similar spice. Stir to incorporate the spices and cook over low heat for 2 minutes.
4. Add the beans and both kinds of tomatoes. Mix well.
5. Bring to a simmer and cook for 30 minutes. Stir frequently to avoid scorching.
6. Serve hot in bowls with sour cream (or Greek yogurt for a healthier twist) and chopped green onions as tasty garnishes.
