If you’re looking to spend a day on the Lake Michigan shoreline, there’s no shortage of destinations to choose from.
If you want a mix of beach, nature, history and adventure, Muskegon has you covered.
Here’s where to go and what to see if you find yourself in this friendly West Michigan town.
  1. Beach it. With 26 miles of sandy beaches, you’ll likely find a good fit for your needs. Pere Marquette Park includes one of only three nationally-certified clean beaches on the Great Lakes. Camp and hike at P.J. Hoffmaster State Park, which includes forest-covered dunes along three miles of Lake Michigan shore. Bring your canine friends to the Norman F. Kruse Park, which has a dog beach.
  1. Seek thrills. Muskegon is home to Michigan’s largest amusement park and water park, Michigan’s Adventure. Whether high-flying coasters or tubing along the lazy river are your speed, there’s something for everyone at this fun destination.
  1. Soak up some history. History buffs are sure to love touring Muskegon. The Hackley & Hume Historic Site features restored examples of Victorian architecture and late 19th century interiors. The USS Silversides Submarine Museum allows you to tour a World War II-era submarine with educational displays about military history and technology. Michigan’s Heritage Park, located in nearby Whitehall, is a living history park featuring an interactive walking tour covering 10,000 years of the state’s history.
  1. Revel in art and antiques. Art lovers will have much to admire at the Muskegon Museum of Art with an inspiring permanent collection and rotating exhibits. Antique seekers will love The Front Porch, Seven Sisters Antiques and the Muskegon Antique Mall.
  1. Eat and drink. You’ll be hungry after a day lounging on the beach or seeing the sites. The Hearthstone, The Station Grill, Curry Kitchen, Rebel Pies and The Deck are all highly rated. If you’re craving a craft beer, Unruly Brewing Company and Pigeon Hill Brewing Company are located in Muskegon and Oceana Winery & Vineyard has you covered if you prefer vino.
