Public transportation in Detroit has gotten two major additions this year. This spring the city launched the QLINE, a street car system along Woodward Avenue. Now, the newest way of traveling Detroit’s unique neighborhoods is here: the MoGo Detroit Bike Share.
May marked the official kick-off of the new bike share program. There are 43 solar-powered stations located within a 20-mile radius of the downtown business district. The program offers 430 bikes ready for visitors, residents, downtown employees and more to explore Detroit with this summer.
Here’s how to take full advantage of these rides for the summer season:

Purchase a Pass

Begin your summer adventure by purchasing a day, month or annual pass on either the MoGo website or the Transit App. Day passes start at $8.
The Campus Martius Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan sponsored bike station.
The station locations are also available on Cyclefinder app that gives you access to the bikes and the docks, right at your finger tips.
After you have purchased a pass, you may use a bike within 30-minute time increments during the day. This means once you check out a bike, it must be parked at any of the station locations within 30 minutes of your start time. With each of these passes, you have unlimited checkouts within the period your pass is valid.
This program is great for traveling short distances to your favorite spots without the expense or hassle of finding parking in the downtown area. Cash payments are also accepted for certain passes at local convenience stores listed here.

Decide Where to Go

Here is a list of some of our favorite go-to Detroit destinations, all of which include nearby bike stations:
  • Stop at the 2nd Street Station in Midtown explore the neighborhood restaurants and breweries
  • Tour the Detroit Riverfront from the Renaissance Center to Elliot Park
  • Never miss out on any of the food trucks or entertainment at Campus Martius
  • Roll up to The DIA to take a break from the heat and see some artistic treasures
  • Park around the corner from Monroe Avenue and walk through Greektown for an evening of food and fun
  • Catch a game at Ford Field or Comerica Park by parking more easily at Grand Circus Park or the 36th District Court
MoGo Detroit an easy and healthy way to get around the city quickly. Using the bikes work perfectly for visitors or individuals who travel frequently through these neighborhoods, or anyone that wants to explore the downtown area on two wheels.
When biking make sure to watch your surroundings on busy streets and sidewalks, and wear a helmet.
