celebrate new years in michigan
Whether you’re celebrating another great year gone by or embracing a fresh start with open arms, there are plenty of places around Michigan to celebrate New Year’s Eve and usher in 2017.
Here are a sampling of options from around the state:
  • Alpena: Travel back in time as you celebrate the future with Bob Seger tribute band, the System, taking center stage at the Alpena Events Complex for a New Year’s Eve Celebration. Admission includes hot hors d’oeuvres, pizza and party favors.
  • Detroit: Watch the D drop and enjoy live entertainment, fire pits, horse drawn carriage rides and ice skating at Campus Martius Park. Over 20,000 people are expected to attend the celebration.
  • Kalamazoo: Head to New Year’s Fest, an all-ages performing arts showcase in Bronson Park. Music, magic, comedy, and food will all be capped off with a ball drop and fireworks at midnight.
  • Mackinac Island: If you want a more intimate celebration, consider spending the night on Mackinac Island. There’s a New Year’s Eve hayride and visitors can snowshoe through the peaceful downtown. Find more details here.
  • Marquette: Enjoy the second annual Ball Drop Bash, which benefits the Ahmed Shrine and Marquette Jr. Hockey. Dueling pianos, a dessert bar, and live bands and entertainment will help you shimmy your way into 2017.
  • Traverse City: Count down at the CherryT Ball Drop, held at the corner of Front and Park streets in downtown Traverse City. Dance in the streets with the help of a live DJ until the cherry drops at midnight.
