#MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP
Twelve-year-old Gavin DeVore will have a once-in-a-lifetime Thanksgiving experience this year, thanks to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and The Detroit Lions.
Instead of tuning in to watch the parade floats make their way down Woodward Avenue, DeVore will get to ride on one.
The Middleville, Mich. resident will also hand deliver the commemorative game ball to Ford Field, participate in the pre-game “fan tunnel”, and enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving feast with family members while watching the Detroit Lions take on the Minnesota Vikings.
His passion for playing sports and The Detroit Lions led his dad to enter him in the #MIKidsCan Turkey Day VIP Sweepstakes, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. DeVore was randomly selected from 1,433 entries.
The A Healthier Michigan team had a chance to catch up with Jason DeVore (Gavin’s dad) before the big day in the latest #MIKidsCan spotlight:
What does Gavin do to stay active?
He plays baseball, football, and wrestles. He plays football with his brothers and sister. Even in the winter they play in the house throwing the football down the hallways.

Does Gavin play any sports?
He is always playing sports and moving around. He plays football with his school Thorne Apple Kellogg Middle School. He also wrestles and has even made it to the state finals 8 years in a row.
Who is Gavin’s favorite Detroit Lions player?
He plays quarterback, so right now his favorite is Matthew Stafford.
If you’re tuning in to America’s Thanksgiving Parade® presented by Art Van this year, be sure to keep an eye out for Gavin on board the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan parade float.
Do you know a child who deserves to be recognized for their commitment to living a healthy, active lifestyle? Nominate them at AHealthierMichigan.org/MIKidsCan.
