Whether you’re laying outside soaking up the sun, along for the ride on a road trip or stuck inside on a rainy day, it’s always a great idea to have a book to pass the time. The first thing you may think is, “Well I don’t know any good books to read!”
Look no further because this summer reading list captures some of the best novels of 2014 and also books to read before they hit the big screen later this year.
Here is a list of 5 ‘must have’ books on your 2014 summer reading list:
1. Half a King – Joe Abercrombie
Joe Abercrombie is a British fantasy writer that was named as one of New York Times best-selling authors. Half a King tells a tale of a prince who does everything in his power to regain a thrown he swore he never wanted. Since the prince only has one good hand he must prove to his father as well as himself that he is worthy of the title.
2. We Were Liars – E. Lockhart
We Were Liars is an unforgettable novel about love and tragedy. Cadence, the main character, suffered a horrific tragedy at her grandfather’s private island in Masachusetts. She returns two years later to her cousins and her love interest where they help her to remember the truth of what exactly happened in that accident two years ago.
3. If I Stay – Gayle Forman
If I Stay is a novel that will be hitting theaters on August 22, 2014. Forman writes of a girl, Mia, who has been in a tragic accident. She is in a stage between life and death and has one day to decide if she should follow her musical dreams and attend Julliard or be with the love of her life.
4. Gone Girl – Gillian Flynn
Gone Girl is also a novel that will be heading to the big screen on October 3, 2014. Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike play the two main characters, Nick and Amy. The book depicts two different perspectives for the reader: a huband whose wife has suddenly gone missing, and the missing wife. A complete list of books that will be adapted into movies in 2014 can be found online.
5. All Fall Down – Jennifer Weiner
All Fall Down was named as one of Amazon’s top 10 summer reads for 2014. The main character, Allison, develops a website that becomes a huge success. It seems as though she has it all. But with this success comes added pressure and stress so Allison becomes dependent on the painkillers she was prescribed for a back injury. She never once thought she was the kind of person who would have a “problem” until she ends up in rehab where she learns a few life lessons along the way.
Spend your summer diving into the lives of the intriguing characters in these novels. The summer months are a time to kick back and relax so why not pick up a good book?
