My #HealthyMe goal: Making healthy choices

Smoothie

My main goal for #HealthyMe is start making healthier choices, which has more to do with feeling better as opposed to weight loss. I want to make healthy eating a lifestyle as opposed to crash dieting, which has not worked for me in the past. I want to integrate better food choices into my daily life so it becomes a habit, I never want, “go on a diet”, I just want to eat well on a daily basis.

My first step to becoming a healthier me is to start my day off with a smoothie full of fruits and vegetables. I have been replacing my first coffee of the day with a smoothie for two weeks now and have noticed that I feel less groggy by the afternoon. I have been playing with different recipes and have come up with fruit and veggie combination that seems to work really well. My morning power smoothie includes:

  • 1/4 cup fresh strawberries
  • 1/4 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/4 cup fresh raspberries
  • 1/4 spinach
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 1/4 skim milk
  • 1/4 orange juice

Be sure to drink this smoothie immediately for the highest amount of vitamins and nutrients. If you are planning on drinking it later, store it in a dark, cool container.
