Healthy snacking is a great way to keep your energy up throughout a busy day, especially during those times of day where it seems like you don’t have any energy. The right snack can help you stop that energy slump.
Those healthy snacks are also an opportunity to enjoy some nutritious food for better health. Try some of these ideas to help stop the slump at work or at home. They can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
My 7 Stop-the-Slump Go-To Snacks
The following seven snack options are best when you pair 2 of them together to give you multiple food groups, which in turn gives you a better variety and more nutrient bang-for-your-buck when it comes to snacking.
  1. Hard-boiled egg
  1. Fruit
  1. Low-fat cheese
  1. Cereal bar with protein and fiber – watch the calories and fat
  1. Vegetables with hummus
  1. Nuts
  1. Greek yogurt
These are also great choices for a quick and easy grab and go breakfast. If you are enjoying these foods for breakfast try grabbing 3 options to make it more like a meal.
Don’t forget to stay hydrated and enjoy plenty of water all day long too.
Trail mix it up yourself
I love trail mix. It is another great snack that has a variety of flavors and is good for you. The key is to make sure you don’t overdo it. My advice is to make your own and portion it accordingly.
I do this by taking various trail mix ingredients and mixing them together myself. This gives me control over what is in my trail mix. Take the end of your cereal, packaged snacks, nuts, dried fruits and even a chocolate treat and throw them together. Mix it up and then measure a 1/3 cup portion into a small snack size container and voila, you have your own trail mix. It is easy to make and easy to take!
Inside Out Sandwich
What is she talking about now, an inside out sandwich? What does that mean? Well, I will tell you. It is a fun way to enjoy a quick snack for you and the kids.
First, take a pretzel rod. Next, squirt some mustard or honey mustard on it. (You can even try guacamole or hummus, if you aren’t a mustard fan.) Next wrap a piece of your favorite lunch meat around it and there you have it. A portable, easy to eat, fun inside out sandwich. If you really want to get creative you could even throw some lettuce around the pretzel rod too.
