Tricks to prevent you from getting sick
If you are one of those people who just seem to catch everything that’s floating around (like me), then I’m sure you often wonder if there is a way to prevent yourself from getting sick or catching the current “bug.” This is not to say that there is technically a way to avoid all sicknesses; however, there are definite tips and tricks to help your immune system prevent those dreaded colds, flus, and sore throats.
Below are the best, tried and true, tricks to aid your immune system in preventing illnesses or fighting said bugs off much quicker. Remember that the range of time between when you acquire a virus and when you actually become sick takes about 48 to 72 hours.
-Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds each time.
-Carry hand sanitizer in your car, purse, briefcase, etc.
-Don’t share drinks or food with others.
-Try to avoid touching surfaces that carry many germs, i.e. public spaces like doorknobs, tables, desks, etc.
-If you are sick, cough into the crook of your arm so as to avoid your hands and block germs from coughing.
-Maintain a strong immune system by getting enough exercise, sleep, drinking lots of water, and eating healthy foods.
-Take vitamin C every day.
-Keep your stress levels in check as stress hormones lower your immune system’s ability to fight off viruses.
-Get enough sleep. The number of hours needed varies, but generally hovers between 7 and 9 hours per night. If you are unable to get all of your sleep at night, a midday 20-minute nap can make a difference as well.
